Meet Naomi.

 AdvDip Transpersonal Psychology (Art Therapy)

 A NATURAL PROGRESSION

My name is Naomi and I’m a registered transpersonal art therapist (ANZACATA) and visual effects artist based in Byron Bay, Australia. I am so grateful to work in two unique fields that awaken my creative spirit.

A little story about how I came to be a creative therapist...

When I was 20 years old, my younger brother passed away in a car accident. I didn't know this at the time, but this event would shape my entire life moving forward. The journey that followed was a spiritual exploration; my grief would influence the way I decided to live -  with vitality and expansiveness.

After graduating from university with a Bachelor of Visual Arts, the world beckoned. I became a visual effects artist and had an adventurous nomadic life exploring the world.  I honed my skills as a compositor and worked with some really special people from many countries. Every day was a humbling experience, and "the school of life" taught me so much. I then progressed as a VFX supervisor on film sets globally. Over the next 14 years, I lived and worked in Toronto, New York, and Cape Town before circling back to my beautiful homeland, Australia, in 2019.

In 2020, I had an unexpected diagnosis of a rare and aggressive form of breast cancer at the onset of the pandemic. What followed was a year of navigating the medical world while embracing a seemingly inevitable transformation. Though chemotherapy, radiation, and multiple surgeries were challenging, I found inspiration, healing and guidance in deepened meditation practices and creativity. In the sanctuary of healing amidst the pandemic, I rekindled my love for painting and journalling —as a way to navigate my emotional landscape at the time. This therapeutic journey was encouraged by generous gifts of unused art supplies from strangers and neighbours alike, a sign that I was aligning with my heart.

I wondered if this healing practice was something I needed to explore in more depth. At the end of my treatment, I decided to study Transpersonal Psychology and Art Therapy. It ignited a desire to share the healing energy of this process with others—my longstanding affinity for Psychology, particularly Jungian theory, dovetailed with this new direction.

I love exploring the inner landscape with creative therapies, embracing metaphor, myth, ritual, dreams and poetry as portals to the subconscious world.

I have a particular interest in working with self-development, creative blocks, life transitions, chronic illness, stress management, shadow work and dreamwork. I am really passionate about this work, and I love helping people connect with their infinite and expansive potential.
